Chelsea Agree Extenstion With Azpilicueta

The Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta agreed to a contract extension with Chelsea that will see him remaining at Stamford Bridge at least until 2020. Since joining the Premier League club in 2012, Azpilicueta has established himself as the first-choice right-back for Chelsea and now Jose Mourinho secured one of his most important players for the years to come.

Azpilicueta has not only made his presence being felt for his club but also for his country Spain as he was selected to play in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup as well as being featured in the 2014 World Cup.

Not only has Chelsea seen a number of new arrivals, contract extensions and changes being made in the squad but their kit is also going to experience a switch in sponsors as their current deal with their sponsors Samsung will reach its end when the current season concludes and it is expected that Turkish Airlines is going to be the one that replaces Samsung.

The current sponsorship deal involving Chelsea and Samsung initiated in 2005 and their contract lasts for 10 years which also includes an extension that was made in 2013.

All signs are pointing towards Turkish Airlines being the next major sponsorship for Chelsea. Turkish Airlines currently has sponsorship deals with Barcelona, Manchester United and the Turkish national team.

The cash injection that Chelsea receives is expected to be in the same region as the deal that the Premier League club currently has with Samsung although nothing official has been said as the deal is expected to be made and agreed between both parties next year.

Turkish Airlines has been making a number of recent deals involving stars in the world of sports as they completed launching a commercial deal with Lionel Messi and Kobe Bryant.

Donovan Confident They Can Make AN Impact

Landon Donovan is one of the few players in the LA Galaxy team to have an experience of what it means to play against Manchester United. The Premier League giants will be coming up against LA Galaxy in a pre-season friendly match for the Europeans. The MLS team, on the other hand, are in the best possible condition since their season is midway. As a result, they are expected to provide stiff competition to United in the pre-season friendly match. There is a lot of positivity surrounding United after the appointment of Louis van Gaal and the arrival of new players in the transfer window.

Despite this, Donovan is confident that his team can create an impact in the match. The US international will especially be in the best possible condition after not taking part in the World Cup 2014. He was left out of the squad by manager Klinsmann, but this has allowed him to concentrate on his club career. The 32-year-old came up against United in the two loan spells against Everton. In winter will not only be coming up against LA Galaxy, but also against the other MLS teams as well. They will be playing in places like Washington DC, Detroit, and Denver. Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Roma are also touring the United States right now.

“It is exciting. I think for our guys we don’t often get the chance to play against a team like this, we don’t get to play in front of 60,000-70,000 people all the time so it will be exciting. As everybody knows nowadays you don’t get friendly matches anymore and obviously with a new manager and some new players for them they’re going to be ready to go and we’ll do the same,” said Donovan. The match will be held at the Rose Bowl stadium in California.

CHELSEA FALL FLAT

Chelsea’s run in the Champions League has reached its end after Athletic Madrid blasted 3 goals past Mark Schwarzer at Stamford Bridge and the Premier League club couldn’t find a way to respond and lost 3-1.

Surprisingly enough it was Fernando Torres who scored the opening goal of the match and gave Chelsea the lead after 36 minutes had passed but a few moments later Adrian equalized the match.

Athletic Madrid continued creating more chances throughout the 2nd half of the encounter until the point that Chelsea’s defence started breaking down and things turned worse for Jose Mourinho and his squad when Samuel Eto’o entered the pitch and the Cameroon fouled Diego Costa inside the box with the referee not hesitating in allowing Athletic Madrid in taking the penalty kick.

Diego Costa stepped up to take the set-piece and made no mistake in firing it into the roof of the net.

Arda Turan sealed the victory for Athletic Madrid as he scored the last goal of the encounter as the Spanish team booked their place in the finals of the Champions League having to face off against Real Madrid on May 24.

When the match concluded, Jose Mourinho went on voicing his opinion about his squad’s defeat.

“I think that until the penalty they were not the best team, we had control of the game, we had more possession, more chances, we scored a great goal but we conceded a poor goal and we knew that at set-pieces we would have chances. Terry had a great chance but it was a fantastic save and after that the penalty killed the game and there was only one team in it. We were trying and the players were trying everything but from that the moment the reality is that we knew we were out’’. Mourinho declared.
