GERRARD FOR INAUGURAL STAR SIXES TOURNAMENT

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is set to lead a team of England players in the inaugural six-a-side tournament.

The event is slated for the London O2 Arena where former international stars will line up.

Twelve teams would compete for the top prize as former stars roll back the years and entertain fans. The teams would be playing for national pride but there would be a goal of silverware.

“This football will be totally different. This is inside, the pitch is smaller and the fans will see more dribbling, more skills. I’m very happy to be a part of Star Sixes. I’m a competitor and although I’m retired, when you play football the most important thing is to win!” France skipper Robert Pires said.

The invited nations will play a 20-minute game in three groups of four teams each. The top two from each group would then qualify for the last eight with two best third placed teams joining. The four quarterfinal games are set for Saturday while the semi-finals would be played on Sunday. The third place and final game would hold on Sunday as well. Franck Ribery has said that Chelsea wanted him at Stamford Bridge in 2009.

The 33-year old is now past his prime was one of the most outstanding wingers. He was in high demand about a decade ago with Bayern Munich president Karl Heinz Rummenigge confirming that Chelsea badly wanted him.

Rummenigge revealed that the Blues offered £56 million and Jose Bosingwa in a cash plus player deal for Ribery but the German side were not fazed. The Bayern chief believes that the move helped the club dominate Europe.

Ribery added that the biggest clubs in Europe were on his case, naming Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United as interested parties.

AZPILICUETA UNDER APPRECIATED AT CHELSEA?

Chelsea have a brilliant defender in Cesar Azpilicueta in their hands but could the player be under-appreciated at Stamford Bridge?

Azpilicueta has been adjudged one of the best legs at the club in the last four years. He joined as a right back but he has been spectacular in the left back role. He is one of the reasons why the tweak in formation by manager Antonio Conte is making the headlines.

Conte has praised him numerously for his efforts in the team. At the club’s Pitch Owners gala dinner, the former Italy national team boss said; “He’s incredible in his new role. One of the best in the world in this role”.

The Blues signed the player from French club Marseille in 2012 and the Spaniard has more than delivered on his investment. Even when right back Jose Bosignwa had to exit the team after their Champions League victory, Azpilicueta took over effortlessly. Continue reading AZPILICUETA UNDER APPRECIATED AT CHELSEA?

BOSINGWA ENJOYING LIFE IN TRABZONSPOR

Former Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa rejoined Trabzonspor earlier in the year after signing a one-and-a-half year deal.

Bosingwa, who was released by the Turkish Super Lig club in November last year following an injury, confirmed the news through the club’sTwitter account on Saturday.

The 33-year-old has struggled for fitness since he left Chelsea and Queens Park Rangers nearly three years ago.

Despite his relatively injury-plagued career, the Portuguese international is one of the most successful full-backs in European football. Before he arrived in England and West London, Bosingwa spent five years at Porto.

He made over 100 appearances for the Portuguese side, played in the team that won the Champions League in 2004 under manager Jose Mourinho and won four consecutive PrimeiraLiga winner’s medals.

Bosingwa featured 89 times in four years with the club but Chelsea supporters will always remember him from his involvement in the successful Champions League campaign in the 2011-12 season.

He was key in the semi-final second leg against Barcelona at the Nou Camp after coming on to replace injured Gary Cahill after just 12 minutes. Continue reading BOSINGWA ENJOYING LIFE IN TRABZONSPOR

NEVIN FEELS SORRY FOR ‘UNDEREMPLOYED’ COURTOIS

Chelsea legend Pat Nevin feels sorry for the club’s current first choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois as he is ‘underemployed’ as Chelsea’s form gives me little to do these days. The last time Courtois conceded a goal for either club or country was the middle of September. The record for country would have continued but for Estonia’s Henri Anier who scored when they clashed with Belgium on Sunday.

Courtois exploits means that in over 14 hours of competitive football, he has allowed just one goal score. His teammates on the other hand have netted 37 goals within the same period. Courtois would definitely be feeling underemployed if the situation continues. Continue reading NEVIN FEELS SORRY FOR ‘UNDEREMPLOYED’ COURTOIS

From being the kings of Europe to struggling with QPR

Jose Bosingwa was part of a Champions League winning squad with Chelsea during the season of 2011-12 as the Premier League club defeated Bayern Munich in the finals in a match that was decided with a penalty session.

This match was played on May 19 of 2012 at the Allianz Arena in Germany. Bosingwa played for the entirety of this encounter. The Portuguese defender received huge praise from his performance in that match as he managed to keep Franck Ribery at bay as the French defender was not able to play at his usual pace and was limited to only a few moments with the ball under his control.

3 months after this Champions League final and Bosingwa made a move to Queens Park Rangers where his career took a significant dip as he had an unhealthy relationship with the coach at that time, Harry Redknapp.

When the Champions League finals between Chelsea and Bayern Munich was over, Didier Drogba later revealed that Jose Bosingwa was actually one of the most influential and key figures who made the victory happen.

In the autobiography of Didier Drogba, there is a segment where the Ivorian writes about the impact of Bosingwa in the finals of the Champions League which says: “The players really stepped up to take responsibility. The manager was telling BranislavIvanovic to play centre back but Jose Bosingwa said, ‘No, no, I will play centre back’, and carried on to say where he thought others should play. “‘I don’t care’, I remember saying. ‘I can play left back if necessary. We don’t need a striker. I’ll play striker and left back, whatever it takes’.” Continue reading From being the kings of Europe to struggling with QPR

Manchester United should already start searching for a new manager

Louis van Gaal took charge of Manchester United back in May of 2014 and ever since then; he has received heavy criticism due to the boring playing style that the team has been displaying in the pitch. Despite having a fairly slower paced style, Manchester United managed to go through a very impressive and successful 2014-15 Premier League season as the team claimed the 4th spot and will be competing in the upcoming Champions League.

Claiming the 4th spot of the Premier League is impressive as you have to take into consideration that when Manchester United took charge of the club, it was broken down due to the disastrous campaign that the club was positioned under the guidance of David Moyes.

However, Manchester United should already begin to start searching around for yet another manager as Louis van Gaal has revealed his plans to retire  and step down from his managerial career in 2017.

Manchester United’s Louis van Gaal said:“I will give it up in 2017. I promised that to my wife. We have not many years together any more. That is the reason. I have to admit I have said to her, when I met her and after our relationship seemed to be very good, that at 55 I shall quit. I am still working and next week I am 64. I have done everything in my career as a manager. I have been in the Netherlands, my home country, in Spain, which is a fantastic league, and Germany is also a fantastic league.I participated in the World Cup. The only wish was the Premier League. Now I am here.” Continue reading Manchester United should already start searching for a new manager
