The Portuguese defender has been one of the high-profile arrivals at Loftus Road in the summer. He arrived on a free transfer after being released by the arch rivals Chelsea in the summer. The 29-year-old is regarded as one of the best rightbacks in the Premier league. He showed that last season by the a vital component of the Chelsea first team that managed to win the FA Cup and the Champions League titles. Meanwhile, Shaun Wright Phillips is expected to be another player who will be playing the full match against Walsall in order to get his fitness back.

“We’ll take this competition seriously, without any doubt. I’ll pick a team I believe can help us progress into the third round. I will make changes to the side, but that doesn’t mean it’s a competition I don’t respect. Jose will come in for his first start and Shaun – who had a great pre-season and has been very unlucky not to feature more so far this season – will play. Other players who are in and around the first team squad will also get a run out, because they need games to keep them ticking over,” said the QPR manager Mark Hughes ahead of the match.
