AZPILICUETA UNDER APPRECIATED AT CHELSEA?

Chelsea have a brilliant defender in Cesar Azpilicueta in their hands but could the player be under-appreciated at Stamford Bridge?

Azpilicueta has been adjudged one of the best legs at the club in the last four years. He joined as a right back but he has been spectacular in the left back role. He is one of the reasons why the tweak in formation by manager Antonio Conte is making the headlines.

Conte has praised him numerously for his efforts in the team. At the club’s Pitch Owners gala dinner, the former Italy national team boss said; “He’s incredible in his new role. One of the best in the world in this role”.

The Blues signed the player from French club Marseille in 2012 and the Spaniard has more than delivered on his investment. Even when right back Jose Bosignwa had to exit the team after their Champions League victory, Azpilicueta took over effortlessly.

Azpilicueta is the man who bested Premier League legend Ashley Cole from Chelsea. Cole was a natural star in the wingback role, elevating the attacking options of any team he played in. His career was winding down when Azpilicueta ook over the reins. Many see Cole as the greatest left back of his time.

For Azpilicueta, he is peculiar in his brilliance in reading games, his dedication and resilience. While stars like Eden Hazard and Diego Costa take all the glory after victories, Azpilicueta is one of the regulars that guaranteed the results.

Even in the defence Brazil international David Luiz is celebrated than Azpilicueta. The former PSG star is inclined to make errors but Azpilicueta and N’Golo Kante cover for him. With the community defence Chelsea employs, everyone seems great in their role but Azpilicueta is that oil that keeps the machine running.
